Donations Sought for Winter Toast

Too many airline miles with too little time to go anywhere? Tired of the pressure of having to attend every single Cubs home game with those pesky season tickets of yours? Second home sitting empty except for the dust bunnies? So many spare bottles of wine, liquor and beer cluttering your house you’re tripping over the cases? And how many times can you endure La Traviata or sit through YoYo Ma performing Bach? Darn those Lyric Opera and CSO subscription packages. Or perhaps you have an excess of God-given abilities? What will you do with all that artistic/culinary/home repair/childcare/ landscaping/photography talent?

We may be able to help you out!

We’re the wine auction committee and what’s trash to you is a treasure to us. We’ll take what you give us and turn it into dollars then take those dollars and turn them into a better parish and school. Here are some of the specific items and services we’re looking for: sporting event tickets ... museum passes ... opera, theatre, movie and cultural tickets ... airline miles, tickets and vouchers ... hotel points, vouchers and packages ... restaurant gift certificates ... retail certificates ... water park passes ... a camel ... vacation homes or timeshare properties that aren’t being used ... services such as lawn care, cleaning, handy man, painting, childcare, cooking ... kids activities’ passes for places like Gymboree, Bubbles Academy, Corner Playroom ... music lessons ... spa and salon services ... liquor, wine, beer and beverages ... printing services ... linen rental service.

Naturally, $$$ (even Canadian) are always welcome. This event is Queen of Angels’ main fundraiser and is only a success because of your donations. So come on, take five minutes and think about whether or not you can get any of this stuff. While you’re at it, think about whether your professional or personal contacts can. And if you’re in a business where you have clients, isn’t it time they paid you back? Maybe they know how to acquire some of them.

To donate, contact Erin Shea at 773-365-0040 or erin@joeshealaw.com.

Thank you for your generosity!

Queen of Angels School Mothers Club 5th Annual Wine Festival

6 p.m. to midnight Saturday, February 24, 2007 Guild Hall 4416 North Western Avenue

Join fellow parishioners, school parents, alumni and friends for a great time at this fabulous winter gala.

This will be the chief fundraiser for the parish and school this year so please come with an open mind and an open wallet!

6 p.m. Doors open. Upon entering you’ll receive a program and bidding paddle. You’ll find yourself asking, What happened to the gym? And which way is the bar? We are not exactly sure where they hid all the kick balls, but the full service cash bar will be open when you arrive and stay that way for the remainder of the evening.

6-7:30 p.m. Start with a free tasting of fine wines and microbrews liberally poured by our volunteers. They know their reds from their whites but are not familiar with the phrase ‘say when.’ Enjoy a mouth watering buffet generously donated by Charlie Carlucci. Survey the live auction lots at your leisure. Then stroll over to the silent auction table where you will sign your name so many times it will feel like a real estate closing.

7:15 p.m. Begin arguing with your spouse about what your spending limit is for the night. Ladies, be warned. There’s an all-inclusive Notre Dame road trip and tailgate package that your husband won’t be able to resist. Gentlemen, start pitching it to your wife now. (“But honey, the trip is for 8. Divided by 8 guys it’s not so expensive.“)

7:30 p.m. The live auction begins. Wine, prizes and the fun of competing against your friends and neighbors.

9 p.m. The live auction closes but the fun continues with music and dancing as a DJ spins all your requests. Naturally the longer the bar stays open, the better your dancing gets, so we’ll keep pouring ‘til midnight.

12 a.m. You’ll be wondering if Jeri’s Grill is still open and happy to know you haven’t been volunteered for clean-up duty.

Reserve your name on our guest list by returning your response card, visiting us in the Church Gathering Space after Mass or calling 773-769-4211 (School) or 773-539-7510 (Parish Center). We look forward to seeing you on the 24th.
