Share Your Gifts as Christ Shared Himself

On this Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, we recall the tremendous gift of self that Jesus offers us in the Eucharist.  Out of gratitude for this gift and all good things in our life, we in turn are called to give of our time, talent and treasure.  There are many current opportunities to serve as liturgical ministers, donate to the parish through GiveCentral.org or through the Organ Restoration Fund, purchase gift cards through Shop with the Angels, and volunteer for or pray for those in leadership roles in our parish community.

GiveCentral: A New Option for Giving

ARE YOU READY TO ‘GIVECENTRAL?’
There are many ways to give to your community and your church. Some may choose volunteering, other types of service work, and/or financial contributions. All are valued and important in the eyes of the Church and ministry, but your attention is now drawn to GiveCentral. This is a unique opportunity for our parish to contribute to our faith community, develop stewardship opportunities and give back too those who are in the greatest need of assistance.

Announcements, Week of April 8, 2012

SSVD REFLECTS... Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Come and see what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is doing in your own neighborhood and know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering. The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12 in the Parish Center.

NOTES ON THE ORGAN There is still time to donate to the restoration work for the Moller organ that has graced Queen of Angels for decades. Donation envelopes were included in a recent Guide. Or simply place your donation in an envelope marked “Organ Fund.” The re-leathering project is designed to breathe new life into parts of the organ that are showing signs of wear and tear.
This is not a cosmetic upgrade. This is necessary to keep the organ from losing the ability to create specific notes. Several notes are already “missing” and we don’t want to compromise the integrity of the musical instrument at all. It is a classic and needs to remain so.
There are so many causes that require financial assistance and support. When deciding where your charitable dollars go, please consider a lasting treasure like the Moller organ. Thank you for your generosity. If you would prefer using a credit card, please call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510 or click “Donate Now” on our website, parish.queenofangelschicago.org, to donate online through GiveCentral.org.

GiveCentral -- a new donation option

Queen of Angels Parish is now using GiveCentral.org to accept online payment and donations. GiveCentral was created for the Archdiocese of Chicago based on the needs of parishes and schools to process electronic payments. Queen of Angels is using GiveCentral for Sunday giving, fundraising, and other events, including this year's Easter collection.

With GiveCentral you can:

  • Make donations/payments via credit card or electronic check to multiple locations from a single account
  • Store payment information securely for future donations/payments
  • Schedule one-time and/or recurring donations/payments
  • View donation/payment history
  • Receive update messages from Queen of Angels through alerts and emails

Click the “Donate Now” button below or in the left sidebar to sign up and begin giving through GiveCentral today!

Donate to Queen of Angels electronically using GiveCentral.org

What happened to ParishPay? For several years, electronic giving has been available at Queen of Angels through the ParishPay service. Because GiveCentral is customized for the Archdiocese of Chicago, and more customizable for our parish's many needs, we are now offering these services through GiveCentral.

However, the option to donate through ParishPay is still there... for now. Parishioners not already using ParishPay are encouraged to sign up for GiveCentral, as we may end our use of ParishPay sometime in the future, if GiveCentral can meet our needs as hoped. Thank you for your cooperation.

FISH FRY AT ATLANTIC GIVES BACK Wondering what meatless dish to prepare every Friday evening during Lent? Our neighbor, The Atlantic Bar and Grill, 5062 N. Lincoln Ave., is hosting a Fish Fry to help you over the hump every Friday from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. In turn a portion of the proceeds will be donated to our school. The adult all-you-can-eat menu includes fish, veggies and fries for $11, while the $6 kids menu includes macaroni and cheese, or fish and veggies or fries. Eat up!

WELL, BOWL ME OVER!
The First Annual Adult Bowling Knight event that so many have been waiting for is slated for Friday, April 20 at the Lincoln Square Lanes, 4874 N. Lincoln Ave.

The fun begins at 7 p.m. with check-in and gains momentum at 7:30 p.m. when the bowlers take their places on the lanes. The fee is $25 per person and includes three games of bowling and food. For those who don’t want to miss out on the fun but would rather not change shoes, the fee is $10 per person for food only. There will be a cash bar, a 50/50 raffle plus a separate raffle on five sports and/or local business goodie baskets.

All proceeds will benefit the Athletic Program at Queen of Angels and any necessary gym improvements. It is hoped that many parishioners and school parents will come together and join us for this first-time bowling event.

SSVD REFLECTS... In today’s Gospel, God demonstrates great love for us by sending his Son so that we may believe in him. We demonstrate our great love for God by doing good works: reaching out to others, acting in justice and charity. Through your almsgiving you are performing a good work, far greater than you think. Know that your nickel, dime or quarter is multiplied by the coins placed by others in the St. Vincent dePaul Poor Box.

HELP SCHOLARS WITH THE LYMAN FUND Your donation to the Lyman Scholarship Fund goes a long way in continuing the mission of our parish and our school: no child is denied a Catholic education because of a cash shortfall in the family. A growing number of families need assistance from the Lyman Fund. Please help. Use the green envelope provided in each bimonthly envelope packet, or simply write “Lyman Fund” on an envelope and drop it in the Sunday collection. Your donation is always welcome.

SSVD REFLECTS... In today’s Gospel Jesus is asked, “What sign can you show us?” Every day we can see signs of how God has visited us in the blessings of our lives. Let us be a sign of God’s love by being a blessing to others. Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Parish Center and leave a message for the Society of St. Vincent dePaul so that together we can help the suffering.

LOOKING TO BOARD ELECTIONS If you are interested in running for a board position on either the Athletic, Commons or School Board, the time is now to mark your calendar to attend one meeting in March or April to fulfill that eligibility requirement.
-- The Athletic Board will be seeking five candidates to fill four 3-year terms and one 1-year term.
-- The School Board will have four openings, all for three-year terms.
-- Commons will seek to fill the Vice President and Treasurer positions.
Meeting dates and times are posted on the school website. Please give thoughtful consideration to volunteering your time and talents to one of these essential boards.

NORTH SIDE KAIROS SEEKS LEADERS North Side Kairos 13 is currently looking for high school or first year college students for their leadership team. Applicants must:
-- have already attended a Kairos retreat, such as through a Catholic high school or at a parish;
-- be open to lead as part of a diverse team of youth and adults for this co-ed, multi-parish experience; and
-- complete a leader application and return it to the retreat coordinators by the extended deadline, Saturday, March 31, 2012.
Chosen leaders will receive thorough leadership training in the late spring and summer to prepare them for the peer-to-peer retreat. This is a great opportunity for teens to grow in faith, develop communication skills and gain experience in leading others.
The retreat will take place August 10-13 at Bellarmine Hall in Barrington. North Side Kairos is a joint effort of youth and adults at several north side and suburban parishes, including Queen of Angels.
To receive an application or learn more, visit parish.queenofangelschicago.org/kairos or e-mail your request to northside.kairos@gmail.com.
