Spread the Warmth This January

All are invited to reach out to others this January with a Baby Bottle project to benefit moms in crisis pregnancies at the Women's Center, or consider giving your time to lead others to U.S. citizenship. All kings shall pay him homage, all nations shall serve him. — Psalm 72:11
Ante él se postrarán todos los reyes y todas las naciones. — Salmo 72:11

PROMISE FULFILLED Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people shall become God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel.

HELP YOURSELF TO MARKET DAY Market Day provides restaurant quality results and helps Queen of Angels School, too! Pick up a Market Day order form in church or school or visit www.marketday.com to see more than 200 quality food items. Market Day has healthy snacks, quick entrees, and a long line of convenience foods. Market Day has been a long-time presence at Queen of Angels for a reason: the items are high quality and the profits go directly to the school. Make a difference and do some grocery shopping along the way. This is a great way to help Queen of Angels School with very little effort. Online Market Day orders are due by 11 p.m. Wednesday, January 25. Pick-up will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at the Guild Hall. If you would like to help, call Nancy at 773-539-7510.

HOSTS NEEDED The Parish Social following the 9:30 a.m. Mass needs people willing to help host these gatherings. Would you care for some coffee, some juice or a donut? If you attend the Parish Social on Sundays, you know you’re at the right place. Gather in the Lower Church and visit with friends while having a light snack. Are you able to bring baked goods or fruit on any given Sunday? If so, please call the Parish Center and leave your name and phone number. Organizations and ministries of the parish are urged to help in this effort. Beverages will be provided. Contact Walter Rucker, walt501@juno.com, or call 773-539-7510.

PLEASE COLLECT THOSE BOXTOPS! Each Box Tops coupon is worth a dime to Queen of Angels students. Local grocer Jewel-Osco is currently offering bonus Box Top coupons this week that can help the school earn even more money. Last year, our school earned more than $300 for our school library and classrooms through this program. Please clip Box Tops coupons from products including Cheerios®, Betty Crocker®, Pillsbury®, Juicy Juice®, Kleenex® and more. Drop coupons in boxes outside the school office or at the back of church. Contact Mrs. Allen at aallen@queenofangelschicago.org or Mrs. Diaz at gdiaz@queenofangelschicago.org for more information.

ALL ARE WELCOME! Are you new to our parish community? Welcome! Have you recently moved? May God bless your new home! Please visit or contact the parish office at parish@queenofangelschicago.org or 773-539-7510 to introduce yourself, register or adjust your existing registration. Thanks!

MINISTERS NEEDED FOR FAMILIES The shortest verse in the entire Bible is: “And Jesus wept” (John 11:35). Why does that short sentence merit its own verse? Perhaps it is because at that moment, Jesus does what we all may do when someone we love dies: he grieves for a friend. Will you volunteer to help a grieving family by praying with them at their loved one’s final resting place? The consolation and prayers you offer are a sign of the parish’s love and support. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training is provided. The need is especially urgent for a Nicodemus Minister who speaks Spanish. This ministry may be a good fit for a parishioner who is retired, works from home, or has flexible time during the late morning and early afternoon hours any day Monday through Saturday. Call 773-539-7510.

WILL YOU ASSIST THE LYMAN FUND? Once a month, the collection includes the monthly Lyman Scholarship Fund. The Lyman Scholarship Fund was established to help families in need of assistance in making a tuition payment. We are united by our commitment to “the sharing of faith and knowledge,” as our Parish Mission Statement declares, even in the face of economic uncertainty and the rising costs of educating a child. A growing number of families need assistance from the Lyman Fund. Use the green envelope provided in your envelope packet or place your donation in any envelope marked “Lyman Fund.” The Lyman collection is the first Sunday of the month but donations are accepted at any time. Helping a family in need continues the purpose of our church. Thank you.

READY FOR ANKLEBITERS? Are you a parent of a small child? Join us Mondays when school is in session at 10 a.m. in the school basement. Enter using the north play lot entrance and arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. to sign in. This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. Call 773-255-8133.

SSVD REFLECTS... In today’s Gospel John the Baptist says, “I am the voice of one crying in the desert; make straight the way of the Lord.” As we prepare for Christmas let us ask for the grace to help others to know the love of the Lord. Christmas is a time of love and gift-giving. Please share your abundance by giving a gift to the Society of St. Vincent dePaul so that those who do not have clothes and food can share in the blessings of Christmas. Donations marked “St. Vincent de Paul” can be placed in the collection basket or in the Poor Box.

HOPE: AN IMMIGRANT STORY
“I was a stranger and you welcomed me...” (Matt 25:35)
Maria is a mother of four young children: ages 6, 4, 2 and an infant. While she was still pregnant with the infant, her husband, and father of her children, left on a Monday morning to work in the fields of Michigan. He never returned home that Friday. He had been detained for a very minor traffic offense. Despite his hard work, being in the United States for nine years and having four young children born in the U.S., he was deported before Maria could even locate him. Maria had no source of income, nowhere to turn, and so she turned to the Church.
Pastoral Migratoria provided assistance to pay rent and other necessary expenses. Also with the assistance of one of the priests at the church, they were able to find a place for her children at the parish school.
How could we accompany this family? Action: Join us at 7 a.m. Friday, December 16 at 101 W. Congress for the Posada Pilgrimage. For more information, contact Elena Segura in the Office for Immigrant Affairs and Immigration Education, 3525 S. Lake Park Ave., Chicago IL 60653 at esegura@archchicago.org or 312-534-5333.

"Care and Compassion"
