Congratulations to

GET INVOLVED: CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
The 9:30 Sunday liturgies offer an opportunity for children to hear the readings and prayers of the Mass in words that are familiar to them. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word is designed for children ages 3 through early primary grades. Young children and their catechists have a great time together sharing prayer and reflection on the Sunday readings. The experience created at the Children’s Liturgy parallels that of all the faithful worshipping at Mass each week. Children are blessed by the priest before the First Reading, walk together downstairs to the Children’s Liturgy chapel space, and return upstairs to their families later in the Mass. The reunion of families in time for the consecration and Communion is a sign of the union of the Church in this holy sacrament. Volunteers are needed and materials are provided. Please consider this opportunity to guide our young ones. For more information on this important ministry, please contact Albert Ferolie at 773-283-9428 or albertferolie@ferolielaw.com.

NATIONAL HIV/AIDS AWARENESS DAYS APPROACH
-- Wednesday, March 10 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Today, women account for more than one-fourth of all new HIV/AIDS diagnoses, and the majority of these women are 15 to 39 years of age.
-- Saturday, March 20 is National Native HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Despite having the smallest population, American Indians and Alaska Natives have the third highest rate of AIDS diagnoses in the U.S., and women account for 29 percent of the diagnoses in this group.
There are more than 1.25 million people in the United States living with HIV. One fourth of them do not know they are infected with the virus. Without knowing, you could be spreading it to others. The only way to know about HIV is to get tested. The disease has no cure; there is no vaccine; and it will not go away. However, HIV/AIDS can be prevented.
Free and confidential or anonymous testing is available. For information, call 312-948-6500 or visit www.catholiccharities.net/hiv_aids. Please pray for those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS throughout the year.

NICODEMUS MINISTRY When a parishioner dies, the priest celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. The final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Laity are urged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer. It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members of the parish -- and not just the priest -- pray. Volunteers are needed to minister to grieving families. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training is provided. Call 773-539-7510.

BOX TOPS, LABELS FOR EDUCATION Please collect General Mills Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Labels for Education. Use the labeled box at school or put in the collection at church. These are used in a redemption program for additional school supplies. Thank you for your support!

TAI CHI CLASSES All adults are invited to join parishioner Richard Morton for low-cost Tai Chi classes this spring from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Chicago Wushu Academy, Montrose and Clark. The date of the first meeting is to be determined, but please call 773-539-7510 if you are interested.

FUND TO HELP FAMILIES IN NEED DEPLETED Once a month, the collection includes the regular weekly offering and the monthly Lyman Scholarship Fund. The Lyman Scholarship Fund was established to help families in need of assistance in making a tuition payment. The school is a very important part of our parish’s mission.
Contributing to the scholarship fund in someone’s name is a wonderful way to remember a loved one. Your generosity will help continue the mission of Queen of Angels in providing a quality Catholic education.
A record number of families benefited from the Lyman Fund last school year, depleting the fund. An even larger number of families this year are seeking assistance. Your help is needed to make sure no child is denied an education at Queen of Angels School because a tuition payment is missed.
Please be as generous as you can. Use the green envelope provided in your envelope pack or simply place your donation in an envelope marked “Lyman Fund.” The Lyman collection is generally the first Sunday of the month but donations are accepted at any time. Helping a family in need continues the mission of our church. The next Lyman Scholarship Fund collection will be Sunday, February 7. Thank you for your generosity and sacrifice.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD The 9:30 Sunday liturgies offer an opportunity for children to hear the readings and prayers of the Mass in words that are familiar to them.
For more information on this important ministry, please contact Albert Ferolie at 773-283-9428.

FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration.
At some time during the day, stop by the chapel for some quiet time with the Lord. Help us keep vigil with the Lord by making time on Fridays for these beautiful moments of prayer.
Bring your thoughts and your bible, rosary, and books, or use the prayer resources in the adoration chapel. Spend some time with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. Visitors are asked to register attendance in the sign-in book in the chapel when attending Adoration. You may sign up for a particular hour of prayer every week. Call Christine Murphy at 773-561-9072.

NICODEMUS MINISTRY When a parishioner dies, the priest celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. The final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Laity are urged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer. It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members of the parish—and not just the priest—pray. Volunteers are needed to minister to grieving families. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training is provided. Call 773-539-7510.

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEK
Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Although Latin America is home to the largest number of Catholics in the world, the Church is experiencing an alarming decline in membership, for a variety of complex reasons. The unstable global economy has played a part, as has a low priest-to-parishioner ratio that makes it difficult to teach the faith and make the sacraments available in a consistent matter. Additionally, migration across the region has ruptured the bonds of family and community in which the Catholic faith is supported and passed down from generation to generation.
This year’s Collection for the Church in Latin America will be directed towards a comprehensive evangelization effort, as well as towards the formation of seminarians, catechists, and lay ministers in more than 200 dioceses. So many are attuned to alleviating material poverty, which is of course necessary and a part of the Church’s efforts anywhere she is present. However, as Mother Teresa once pointed out, life without God is a much greater poverty than any material deprivation.
Through your generous support of this collection, you will help the Church to rebuild her strong presence in Latin America. Your contribution will ensure that millions of people can come to experience the Lord’s love in the sacraments and in strong local parish communities.
I am grateful for all you do to support your local parish, as well as the Church in other parts of the world. May God, who is never outdone in generosity, bless you and your loved ones in this New Year.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
-- Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago

-- Cardenal Francis George, O.M.I., Arzobispo de Chicago

Almighty God, in your love
You bless your Church with priests,
A sign of your faithfulness to your people.
May our prayerful encouragement,
During this year and years to come,
Help them remain faithful to the calling

As they tend your flock, grant them a caring heart.

With you and the Holy Spirit,
One God forever and ever. Amen.

God Versus Science

7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007
Queen of Angels Voss Center
4412 N. Western Ave.

To be a true scientist, must you also be an atheist? Can natural science be reconciled with religious beliefs? Listen to some thoughtful scientists and a perceptive historian discuss these topics.  Panelists include Professor John Rogers, Computer Science; Professor Warren Schultz, History; Kathy Mortell, Organic Chemistry; and Sarah Ma, Chemical Engineering.  Thomas Donnelly will moderate.

The event is sponsored by the Queen of Angels Men’s Club.
