“Listen to Him!”

BUILDING ON 100 YEARS OF SHARING AND CARING
The scripture story of Jesus’ Transfiguration is a standard gospel, as it were, for the second Sunday of Lent, narrated by a different evangelist from year to year. St. Luke wrote the account that draws our attention today. It is significant to hear a story of glory shortly before Jesus enters into the sole purpose and mission of his life: passion, death and resurrection.

The disciples, Peter, James and John, were invited by Jesus to accompany him to Mount Tabor, where Jesus was transfigured before them in the presence of Elijah and Moses. What a great revelation for these three! Peter’s request to build a tent for each of them on this site is understandable. He did not want the vision to end and face the hardship down the road. On the other hand, to be on a “high” like this enables one to endure the heavier events that come into our lives. I am sure many of us can recall the times in life when we found ourselves on a “high” like the disciples and we hoped it would never end.
