RCIA: The Rite Of Christian Initiation For Adults

This program is the Church’s way to welcome those who wish to join the Catholic Church and have no religious background or are coming from other religions.  It also helps baptized Catholics who have not received First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation complete their faith and sacramental journey into the Church.

Sessions begin in September and continue on Tuesday evenings until Holy Saturday night, the eve of Easter Sunday.

The program embraces information, formation, prayer, liturgy, question and answer dialogue and the building of community among the participants.

For the latest information or to sign up for the classes, please contact the parish office at 773-539-7510 or parish@queenofangelschicago.org.

The Sacrament Of Confirmation

Confirmation is celebrated in January for eighth grade students in the parish school, for eighth graders attending non-Catholic schools or for high school parishioners who have not been confirmed.  Preparation for Confirmation begins in September and continues on Monday evenings through December.

A parent night, sponsor night and Confirmation Candidates’ service hours and retreat are part of this preparation.  To be confirmed, a candidate must have completed two years of religious education prior to Confirmation.

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

first_communion.jpg

First Reconciliation (first confession) is celebrated in March of second grade before First Eucharist. Student preparation is completed in either the Parish School or Sunday Morning Religious Education program for second graders.

First Eucharist (first communion) is celebrated in April of second grade. Student preparation is completed in either the Parish School or Sunday Morning Religious Education program.

Parents participate in a Parent Evening of Reflection and Formation for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation and one for the Sacrament of First Eucharist prior to the child receiving these sacraments.

Children who, for whatever reason, are beyond second grade and have not received First Reconciliation (confession) or First Eucharist (communion) may celebrate these sacraments in later grades following two years of religious education in either the Parish School or Sunday Morning Religious Education programs.  For information on receiving these sacraments after second grade in the Special Sacrament Preparation Program, phone the Office for Religious Education at (773) 769-4986.

The Sacrament of Baptism

baptism.jpg

Congratulations on the birth of your child! We are so happy that you are interested in having your son or daughter baptized at Queen of Angels Parish.

The first step in registering for a baptism is calling the parish office to select a baptismal date from the list of available times.

Baptisms are celebrated, in English, on the second Saturday of the month at 11:30 AM and on the third Sunday of the month at 2:00 PM.  Please phone the Parish Center (773-539-7510) to arrange an English language Baptism.

Baptisms are celebrated in Spanish on the first Saturday of the month at 11:30 AM and the fourth Sunday of the month at 2:00 P.M. Call La Oficina de Ministerio Hispano (773-539-3176) for more information.

Parents presenting their child for Baptism in English must attend a Parent Night of Reflection on Baptism, typically held on the first Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Parish Center prior to their child’s Baptism.

Families wishing to have their child baptized at Queen of Angels are encouraged to register for the parish.
