All kings shall pay him homage, all nations shall serve him. — Psalm 72:11
— Salmo 72:11

PROMISE FULFILLED Isaiah reminds the people of God that the land shall be restored to their possession, they shall rejoice to see their people return from the bondage of exile, and they shall be a light to the nations. In other words, through the people of Israel, the Savior shall come to all people who seek God with a sincere heart. This brings joy and the radiance of God’s glory to all the world and to all people everywhere. Through the fidelity of the people of God, and through God’s fidelity to them, all people shall become God’s children and rejoice in the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel.

HELP YOURSELF TO MARKET DAY Market Day provides restaurant quality results and helps Queen of Angels School, too! Pick up a Market Day order form in church or school or visit www.marketday.com to see more than 200 quality food items. Market Day has healthy snacks, quick entrees, and a long line of convenience foods. Market Day has been a long-time presence at Queen of Angels for a reason: the items are high quality and the profits go directly to the school. Make a difference and do some grocery shopping along the way. This is a great way to help Queen of Angels School with very little effort. Online Market Day orders are due by 11 p.m. Wednesday, January 25. Pick-up will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at the Guild Hall. If you would like to help, call Nancy at 773-539-7510.

HOSTS NEEDED The Parish Social following the 9:30 a.m. Mass needs people willing to help host these gatherings. Would you care for some coffee, some juice or a donut? If you attend the Parish Social on Sundays, you know you’re at the right place. Gather in the Lower Church and visit with friends while having a light snack. Are you able to bring baked goods or fruit on any given Sunday? If so, please call the Parish Center and leave your name and phone number. Organizations and ministries of the parish are urged to help in this effort. Beverages will be provided. Contact Walter Rucker, walt501@juno.com, or call 773-539-7510.

PLEASE COLLECT THOSE BOXTOPS! Each Box Tops coupon is worth a dime to Queen of Angels students. Local grocer Jewel-Osco is currently offering bonus Box Top coupons this week that can help the school earn even more money. Last year, our school earned more than $300 for our school library and classrooms through this program. Please clip Box Tops coupons from products including Cheerios®, Betty Crocker®, Pillsbury®, Juicy Juice®, Kleenex® and more. Drop coupons in boxes outside the school office or at the back of church. Contact Mrs. Allen at aallen@queenofangelschicago.org or Mrs. Diaz at gdiaz@queenofangelschicago.org for more information.

ALL ARE WELCOME! Are you new to our parish community? Welcome! Have you recently moved? May God bless your new home! Please visit or contact the parish office at parish@queenofangelschicago.org or 773-539-7510 to introduce yourself, register or adjust your existing registration. Thanks!

MINISTERS NEEDED FOR FAMILIES The shortest verse in the entire Bible is: “And Jesus wept” (John 11:35). Why does that short sentence merit its own verse? Perhaps it is because at that moment, Jesus does what we all may do when someone we love dies: he grieves for a friend. Will you volunteer to help a grieving family by praying with them at their loved one’s final resting place? The consolation and prayers you offer are a sign of the parish’s love and support. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training is provided. The need is especially urgent for a Nicodemus Minister who speaks Spanish. This ministry may be a good fit for a parishioner who is retired, works from home, or has flexible time during the late morning and early afternoon hours any day Monday through Saturday. Call 773-539-7510.

WILL YOU ASSIST THE LYMAN FUND? Once a month, the collection includes the monthly Lyman Scholarship Fund. The Lyman Scholarship Fund was established to help families in need of assistance in making a tuition payment. We are united by our commitment to “the sharing of faith and knowledge,” as our Parish Mission Statement declares, even in the face of economic uncertainty and the rising costs of educating a child. A growing number of families need assistance from the Lyman Fund. Use the green envelope provided in your envelope packet or place your donation in any envelope marked “Lyman Fund.” The Lyman collection is the first Sunday of the month but donations are accepted at any time. Helping a family in need continues the purpose of our church. Thank you.

READY FOR ANKLEBITERS? Are you a parent of a small child? Join us Mondays when school is in session at 10 a.m. in the school basement. Enter using the north play lot entrance and arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. to sign in. This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. Call 773-255-8133.

ESPERANZA: UNA HISTORIA MIGRANTE “Fuí forastero y ustedes me recibieron...” (Mateo 25:35). Él nunca volvió a casa aquel viernes.

Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent dePaul so that together we can help the suffering and poor to celebrate Christmas.

THANK YOU FROM LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR
On behalf of our family of Little Sisters and Residents, thank you for the opportunity to visit your parish last summer and for the gift of $2,255.03 made possible by the generosity of Queen of Angels parishioners. Your generosity enables us to continue our mission of caring for the elderly poor.
On October 11 we marked our two-year anniversary of the Canonization of our Mother Foundress, St. Jeanne Jugan. This wonderful honor, recognized throughout the world, gives us a renewed passion for continuing the important work of St. Jeanne Jugan. The Little Sisters of the Poor have continued her tradition of opening their homes to the elderly poor, treating each person with respect and dignity, and providing a home filled with care and love until the Lord himself calls them home. Strengthened by our faith, we are assured the Lord will provide for the needs of those he confides to our care.
Thank you for your help in continuing the work of St. Jeanne Jugan. It is a privilege for each of us because as she said, “ In caring for the elderly poor, we care for Jesus.”
Sincerely in Christ, — Sr. Patricia Mary, Little Sisters of the Poor

KICKS FOR RAMS Let’s hear it for Seamus McDonagh, one of eight Gordon Tech Rams football players recognized as all-conference selections. IT’S BOWLING SEASON! The Ravenswood Catholic Young Adults (RCYA) will be bowling on Monday evenings beginning November 7 through the end of February at Lincoln Square Lanes, 4874 N. Bowling will be every Monday beginning at 7:30 p.m. through the end of February. All skill levels are invited. This is a great way to meet fellow parishioners and strengthen ties with the community. For more information, please contact Leah Bertke at lbert@alumni.nd.edu or Tracy O’Dowd at 312-685-2678.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR ADULT CHOIR If you love to sing and have a passion for sacred music, please consider auditioning for the Queen of Angels Adult Choir. We are looking to expand our voices this season and we are currently seeking volunteers from the congregation. The choir will sing three Sundays a month. Rehearsals are conducted before and after Mass so there is a minimal time commitment. And if singing is not your forte but you still have a passion for music and some spare time on your hands, then join our supporting staff. We are always in need of extra hands to help organize our choir banquets, promote choir functions and assist with the basic weekly needs of the many choirs at Queen of Angels Parish. We would love to have you join us in music and fellowship this season. To schedule an audition or to sign up as a non-singing volunteer, please contact Kent Jager at kjager@queenofangelschicago.org or call 773-719-1701.

SHOP WITH THE ANGELS Stop by the Shop With The Angels table before or after the 8 and 9:30 Masses on Sunday or call the Parish Center. The Holiday Arts and Craft Fair indicates we are moving into the holiday season and Shop With the Angels makes it possible to have a stress-free holiday shopping experience. How about a gas card for someone who drives a lot? L.L. Bean for the person who loves the outdoors? Target for a helpful neighbor? Whole Foods for the gourmand in your life? Possibilities are endless! When you buy gift cards, you are helping Queen of Angels and giving the perfect gift that always fits the occasion! Choose whether your profits go to the parish, the Lyman Scholarship Fund or towards a specific school tuition account.

The program is designed for continuous faith formation from one year to the next, including preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation. Registration for the 2011-2012 school year is now open, and registration fees will increase on July 1. To register, please call 773-769-4986 ext. 23.

REFLECTION FROM THE SSVD Today we celebrate “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we reflect on Jesus’ care and love of us and hear his words, “I came so that they may have life and have it more abundantly.” By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul you will reveal the love of the “Good Shepherd” to your suffering brothers and sisters.

NICODEMUS MINISTERS STILL NEEDED The shortest verse in the entire Bible is: “And Jesus wept” (Jn 11:35). This ministry may be a good fit for any parishioner who is retired, works from home, or has flexible time during the late morning and early afternoon hours any day Monday through Saturday. The need is especially urgent for a Nicodemus Minister who speaks Spanish. Call 773-539-7510.

TIME FOR COFFEE AND WALTER... Do you know Walter Rucker? If you attend the Parish Social following the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays, you’ll soon know him. If so, please call the Parish Center and leave your name and phone number. A social event needs more than one person to be a success so join the group and help guarantee the success of these Sunday get-togethers. Beverages will be provided. Contact Walter at walt501@juno.com or call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510.

CAN YOU HELP THE LYMAN FUND? Once a month, the collection includes the monthly Lyman Scholarship Fund. The Lyman Scholarship Fund was established to help families in need of assistance in making a tuition payment. We are united by our commitment to “the sharing of faith and knowledge,” as our Parish Mission Statement declares, even in the face of economic uncertainty and the rising costs of educating a child. A growing number of families need assistance from the Lyman Fund. Your help is needed to make sure no child is denied an education at Queen of Angels School because a tuition payment is missed. Use the green envelope provided in your envelope packet or place your donation in an envelope marked “Lyman Fund.” The Lyman collection is generally the first Sunday of the month but donations are accepted at any time. Helping a family in need continues the purpose of our church. Thank you for your generosity.

¡SHHHHH! ¡Gracias!

SHHHHH! Out of respect for others, please turn off cell phones and other electronic devices when entering the church.

FROM THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL In the Gospel Jesus is transfigured and a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased: Listen to him.” Do we listen to Jesus when he asks us to take care of our brothers and sisters who are suffering? Your gift in the St. Vincent DePaul Poor Box will help the poor to celebrate the grace of God’s love this Easter.

Announcements, Week of March 13, 2011

Adorarás al Señor, tu Dios

SCOUT’S HONOR... Congratulations to parishioners Alec Melhuse and Connor Peterson who achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at yesterday’s Court of Honor. Both young men are currently deciding which university to attend and both are considering engineering majors. We applaud the efforts of these men who have been scouts since they were young boys. The hard work of your families and leaders has more than paid off. We are proud of you!

¡BIENVENIDOS! ¿Es tu primera vez en nuestra parroquia? ¡Bienvenidos! ¡Gracias!

MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY WITH A N.U.T. Uniforms make life easy, convenient and make choosing an outfit in the morning a snap. Buuuutttt... what’s more fun than having a No Uniform Today (N.U.T.) pass and being able to wear what you want? Each pass can be used only once but you may purchase as many as you like. At $10 a piece, this is a great gift idea for students at our school, and 100 % of proceeds will benefit Queen of Angels!
Use it on a day when there hasn’t been time to do laundry, when your child (or staff member) wants to support a favorite sports team or when there is something going on directly after school.
To purchase a N.U.T. card, please send cash or a check made payable to Queen of Angels with the child’s name, room number and amount of N.U.T. cards you wish to purchase.
Cards should not be used on all-school liturgy days, the child’s day for weekly Mass, field trip days and any special day where children should be in uniform, i.e. school tours, Catholic Schools Week Open House, etc.
Thank you for supporting Queen of Angels.

FROM THE SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Lent is a call not just to “give up something” but more important “to give something for the poor.” Wherever
you live in the parish, there are poor families within walking distance of your home. When in need they call the Parish Center. In effect, they are calling your family’s home.
Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St Vincent dePaul at 773-539-7510 so that together we can help the suffering and the poor.

ANKLEBITERS BACK IN SESSION Are you a parent of a small child? Are you looking for a fun activity to start your child’s week? Join us Mondays at 10 a.m. in the school basement. Enter using the north play lot entrance and arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. to sign in. This is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. Contact Michelle Stork at 773-255-8133.

¡SHHHHH! ¡Gracias!

FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration. Help us keep vigil with the Lord by making some time on Fridays for these beautiful moments of prayer. This is a wonderful way to feel closer to God. Visitors are asked to register in the sign-in book in the chapel when attending.

SATURDAY ROSARY Looking to take some time for prayer in your Saturdays? Join us to pray the Rosary after each 9 a.m. Saturday Mass. To volunteer to lead, call Joann at 773-583-1371.

NICODEMUS MINISTRY When a parishioner dies, the priest celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. The final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Laity are urged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer. It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members of the parish -- and not just the priest -- pray. Volunteers are needed to minister to grieving families. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training provided. Call the parish office at 773-539-7510.

WE CAN ALL GIVE TO IGIVE.COM Sign up on www.iGive.com, designate Queen of Angels as your cause and your online purchases lead to rebates to benefit Queen of Angels Parish — at no cost to you!
