Corpus Christi 2011

A WALK WITH THE LORD: CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION
Join us on Sunday, June 26 at 11:30 a.m. for a special celebration in honor of our unity through the Body
and Blood of Christ.

  • 11:30 Bilingual Mass in the church. We will share in the Eucharist that unites and nourishes us. This Mass at 11:30 a.m. will replace the usual 11 a.m. English and 12:30 p.m. Spanish liturgies that day. All parishioners are invited.
  • Procession with the Blessed Sacrament through Welles Park. This is a festive procession with banners, sacred images and, of course, the Body of Christ. Parishioners of all ages will form the honor guard that will accompany the Blessed Sacrament to four stations in our parish’s “front yard” for prayers, readings and songs.
  • Closing prayers and potluck lunch in the church basement. Bring a dish you might bring to a family gathering, and plan to share a meal with your parish family.

Build on our parish’s 100 Years of Sharing and Caring. Show love for the Lord and reverence for the Body of Christ by joining fellow parishioners in this celebration.

HARVEST JAM PROMISES GOOD OLD FASHIONED FUN
There’s nothing like a festival to celebrate the end of summer and all of the great things that come with fall. This year, North Side families can experience a good old-fashioned church festival at the Harvest Jam Fest celebrating the 100th anniversary of Queen of Angels Parish.

The Harvest Jam Fest will offer locals all of the traditional festival experiences plus a few modern additions. From start to finish this is an event that will truly celebrate the people and culture of this North Side community parish.

  • Food from local restaurants like Jury's and Merle’s will be available.
  • Get ready for an outstanding line up of bands, including Jacob Lee Band and Supernaut.
  • A little healthy neighborhood competition is planned in the form of a grill-off, a chili cook-off, and an apple pie baking contest for the adults (see entry forms below), and a Karaoke contest and Guitar Hero face-off for the kids.
  • Don’t miss the carnival games, including the Bingo tent! We’ll have three large jumping jacks for the kids and Pop-a-Shot and Skee Ball for the young at heart.

Your help is needed! Our annual Harvest Jam festival is made possible by the generous donations of local businesses and Queen of Angels families. We would greatly appreciate any donations to help underwrite our costs of hosting the festival. Families often choose to “sponsor” an area of the event, such as the popcorn machines we rent or the jumping jacks for the Kids Korner, which range in cost from $50 to $200. If you would like to make a donation, please make your check payable to Queen of Angels and mail or drop it off at the school office: Queen of Angels, c/o Donna Kalom 4520 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL 60625. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Please volunteer at Harvest Jam! We're looking for helpers who are willing to work a two-hour shift on either September 19 from 1 to 10 p.m. or Sunday, September 20 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. There are also early morning and late night set-up and take-down shifts, if you are interested. Please consider donating your time to help us run an enjoyable and successful event again this year. Contact Lisa Borelli at 773-474-2305 or Eileen Rochford at 312-953-3305 to volunteer, or download the volunteer form and return to the school or parish office or by e-mail to eileenr@theharbingergroup.com.

Faith and Food 2005: Receive Local Produce While Supporting Local Farmers

Queen of Angels Parish is again participating in “Faith and Food,” a Heifer-supported initiative that offers members of Chicago congregations the chance to purchase organic produce and farm-fresh eggs while supporting lives of dignity for those who raise the food. Queen of Angels parishioners and others in Ravenswood can receive shipments of locally grown, organic produce from Heifer-supported farmers.

With the “Faith and Food” initiative, the Heifer Project works with local congregations to develop markets for produce from small, local family farms. Queen of Angels parish has been paired with Home Grown Wisconsin, a cooperative of 25 family farms located throughout southern Wisconsin that have committed themselves to growing fresh, organic produce for the local market. By participating in Faith & Food, you can place your food dollar directly in the hands of this local community of family farms.

Faith and Food 2005: Receive Local Produce While Supporting Family Farms

Because of Queen of Angels’ support of the Heifer Project’s hunger reduction and anti-poverty programs, we have again been invited to participate in “Faith and Food,” a Heifer-supported initiative that offers members of Chicago congregations the chance to purchase organic produce and farm-fresh eggs while supporting lives of dignity for those who raise the food. Working with Heifer and Home Grown Wisconsin, Queen of Angels parishioners and others in Ravenswood can receive 20 weekly shipments of locally grown, organic produce from Heifer-supported farmers.

Deliveries don’t begin until June but parishioners who sign up before March 15 receive a discount on their share of produce. Visit the parish peace and justice website www.peaceandjusticechicago.com to learn more. Or call Cliff McIntosh at 773-278-7625 or Home Grown Wisconsin’s Suzanne Rubenstein at 608-341-8939 for more information or to sign up.
