Happy Easter! ¡Feliz Pascua!

May the Blessings of Easter be Yours!

As we celebrate Easter, we know deep in our hearts that the road to resurrection and New Life may be the one we least expect.

In his book Show Me the Way, Henri Nouwen describes our Lord’s life as one of “hiddenness.” In other words, Christ’s journey towards Resurrection and New Life was paradoxically one of downward mobility, a life where power, popularity and ambition had no value.

As the light of Christ (the Easter Candle) shines in our church during this Easter Season, let us say “Thanks be to God!” for all our parishioners and family members who serve and love God’s people in “hiddenness”— people who neither seek nor desire power, popularity and upward mobility. Their only concern is that the hearts of their brothers and sisters will be set on fire by the Light of Christ.

On behalf of our parish staff, I wish you and your loved ones a Blessed and Joyful Easter. May Christ our Light continue to break through the darkness of our lives and the lives of the people we love.

-- Monsignor James T. Kaczorowski, Pastor

“Fe de Pascua – Gozo de Pascua”

“Easter Faith – Easter Joy”
BUILDING ON 100 YEARS OF CARING AND SHARING
Easter Blessings to each of you, parishioners and friends of Queen of Angels! It is my prayer and hope that this greatest of feasts in the Church Year will not only fill you with the happiness of this day but also strengthen your belief and trust in our Lord Jesus. The feast of Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead is truly the cornerstone of what we believe as baptized Christians. It is the reason for our saying, “I do believe” when we renew our baptismal vows during the Easter Liturgy.

What happened during the early morning hours of that first Easter was the fulfillment of many of Jesus’ words to us heard during the days of Lent. And this great event, this mystery of our faith, happens again and again in our daily lives.

Experience Renewal on Retreat

He’s alive! Jesus Christ is risen today! Hallelujah, Hallelujah! This week we celebrate with Christians around the world the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this season of rejuvenation, do you need a little renewal, too? Try getting away from the everyday at a retreat.

Announcements, Week of April 8, 2012

SSVD REFLECTS... Today as we celebrate the feast of Easter we find the challenge of also seeing and believing the resurrection that comes through our own lives of self-sacrifice which brings new life to others. Come and see what the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is doing in your own neighborhood and know that you are a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering. The next meeting is at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12 in the Parish Center.

NOTES ON THE ORGAN There is still time to donate to the restoration work for the Moller organ that has graced Queen of Angels for decades. Donation envelopes were included in a recent Guide. Or simply place your donation in an envelope marked “Organ Fund.” The re-leathering project is designed to breathe new life into parts of the organ that are showing signs of wear and tear.
This is not a cosmetic upgrade. This is necessary to keep the organ from losing the ability to create specific notes. Several notes are already “missing” and we don’t want to compromise the integrity of the musical instrument at all. It is a classic and needs to remain so.
There are so many causes that require financial assistance and support. When deciding where your charitable dollars go, please consider a lasting treasure like the Moller organ. Thank you for your generosity. If you would prefer using a credit card, please call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510 or click “Donate Now” on our website, parish.queenofangelschicago.org, to donate online through GiveCentral.org.

SCOUTS PLAN RECIPE COLLECTION The Queen of Angels Boy Scout Troop 894 will be collecting wonderful family recipes to create the 2012 Queen of Angels Parish Cookbook. Any kind of recipe is welcome along with a brief history or story about your family recipe. Cookbooks will be available early this fall. Please neatly print or type the recipe along with a brief story (optional) and your name and phone number (in case there is a question). Recipe collection boxes are located in the school office and in the church. For more info, contact Jennifer at angelicreatures@hotmail.com or at 773-583-6299.

2011 DONATION STATEMENTS Tax Day approaches! If you are preparing your 2011 Income Taxes and would like to receive a statement of your tax-deductible gifts to Queen of Angels in 2011, please contact the parish office at 773-539-7510 or at parish@queenofangelschicago.org. We appreciate your help in caring for God’s creation and preserving our parish’s resources by requesting a paperless e-statement that can be sent to your e-mail account. Statements may also be mailed to your street address or picked up during office hours.

READY FOR ANKLEBITERS? Are you a parent of a small child? Join us Mondays when school is in session at 10 a.m. in the school basement. Enter using the north play lot entrance and arrive by 10:30 a.m. to sign in. The next session will be Monday, April 16. This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under.
