SHARING OUR PARISH’S STORY We hope you have enjoyed the parish historical exhibits that have been on display in the church gathering space this Christmas season. The Centennial Historical Committee would like to thank Fr. Tom Lamping, Kent Jager, Julie Hess, Nancy Baer, Jim and Ann Malone, Patricia Krier, Katie Fearon-Peon, and the staff of Sulzer Regional Library for their assistance in preparing these displays.
As we continue our year-long Centennial celebrations, the Historical Committee is gathering remembrances of Queen of Angels from members of our parish family. Please contribute to this effort by sharing with us your reflections on life at Queen of Angels as well as pictures and printed materials you may have saved over the years.
Past and current parishioners of any age are welcome to submit text of any length or to sit down for an interview with a committee representative. We would love to know about your favorite memory of school or CCD, the people who have made you feel at home in our parish, or the experiences that stick with you as “Queen of Angels Moments.”
Do you have photos of weddings, graduations, First Communions or parish events lurking in your attic or basement? If you have pictures to show us, we would be honored to see them. The parish archives will welcome any back issues of The Guide, program books or posters from parish events that you may have saved in your scrapbooks.
All submissions will contribute to our efforts to preserve our parish history for the next 100 years. Thank you for caring about our parish enough to share your time and resources with us. Please call 773-539-7510 or e-mail parish@queenofangelschicago.org.

DEACONS IN THE CHURCH The Deacon Formation Program assists candidates and their wives in the key areas of human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral development over a four-year period. Christian discernment implies a life of faith and a sense of one’s relationship with God. Discernment requires a heart ready to listen and respond in prayer and reflection within the context of these four dimensions of formation.
Do you believe Jesus may be inviting you to inquire about this ordained ministry? The next information session for the Archdiocese of Chicago Deacon Formation Program will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, at DePaul University’s O’Hare campus, 3166 S. River Road in Des Plaines. Visit www.usml.edu.
NICODEMUS MINISTRY When a parishioner dies, the priest leads the wake, or vigil service, and celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. The final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Laity are urged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer. It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members in the parish—and not just the priest—pray.
Volunteers are needed to minister to grieving families. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Training is provided. Call the Parish Office at 773-539-7510.
FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION In 2007, Pope Benedict XVI wrote in his Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation, Sacramentum Caritatis, “In a world where there is so much noise, so much bewilderment, there is a need for silent adoration of Jesus concealed in the Host. Be assiduous in the prayer of adoration and teach it to the faithful. It is a source of comfort and light, particularly to those who are suffering.”
Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration. Feel free to bring your bible, rosary, books and thoughts. Spend some time with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. This is an excellent way to build special devotions into your week.
Visitors are asked to register their attendance in the sign-in book when attending Adoration. The book is located in the chapel. You may sign up for a particular hour of prayer every week. At some time during the day, before or after work, while out running errands, stop by the chapel for some quiet time with the Lord. Help us keep vigil with the Lord by making time on Fridays for these beautiful moments of prayer. Call Christine Murphy at 773-561-9072.
