Help those in need this summer through several programs sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul: a toiletries collection, clothing and housewares drive, 5K run/walk and vehicle donation program.
SUMMER TOILETRIES COLLECTION. The Society of St. Vincent dePaul (SSVD) is collecting travel– and individual-sized toiletries for the Franciscan Outreach Ministry, which runs one of the largest case management programs and shelters for the homeless in Chicago. Larger-sized toiletries are also being collected for Girls and Boys Town, a teen transitional shelter in the Back-of-the-Yards neighborhood. The SSVD wishes all a safe and enjoyable summer vacation and asks you to bring home a few souvenirs for those in need. A collection basket is in the Gathering Space at church. Thank you!
BUNDLE SUNDAY. A big St. Vincent dePaul truck will be in the parking lot on the weekend of July 21-22 before the Vigil and Sunday masses to accept your tax-deductible donations. Clothing, household items and furniture, small appliances, household decorations, kitchen utensils, jewelry, tools, paper goods, sporting goods, bikes and toys, dishes, pots and pans, personal hygiene items, bed clothing, baby products and non-perishable food items are accepted. Clothing should be packed in plastic bags. Household and other heavy items should be boxed. Wrap glassware and other breakable items in paper to avoid breakage and worker injury. This is an opportunity to donate those items that you no longer need and help the poor of the Chicago area.
FRIENDS OF THE POOR 5K. Join the Society of St. Vincent dePaul Chicago and DePaul University for the inaugural Friends of the Poor 5K Run/Walk starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 22 at Cannon Drive and Fullerton Avenue. The event is limited to 500 entrants. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Society of St. Vincent dePaul Chicago, whose more than 2,200 volunteers help the needy throughout Cook and Lake counties with food, shelter, clothing, transportation and more. For more info, visit www.svdpchicago.org/SVDP_Chicago.
WHEELS FOR THE NEEDY. The Society of St. Vincent dePaul’s Wheels for the Needy program welcomes donations of cars, trucks, vans, boats -- any vehicle that runs! The Society sells your vehicle at auction and proceeds are used to support those in need. A portion of proceeds goes directly to the Queen of Angels Conference for the poor in our community.
