“Easter Faith – Easter Joy”
BUILDING ON 100 YEARS OF CARING AND SHARING
Easter Blessings to each of you, parishioners and friends of Queen of Angels! It is my prayer and hope that this greatest of feasts in the Church Year will not only fill you with the happiness of this day but also strengthen your belief and trust in our Lord Jesus. The feast of Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead is truly the cornerstone of what we believe as baptized Christians. It is the reason for our saying, “I do believe” when we renew our baptismal vows during the Easter Liturgy.
What happened during the early morning hours of that first Easter was the fulfillment of many of Jesus’ words to us heard during the days of Lent. And this great event, this mystery of our faith, happens again and again in our daily lives.
When we take a look at the day-to-day occurrences of life, we find out how many times we call upon God for help and assurance in all that we do. We may need to wait longer for results than we would like, but we hang on and ponder about the when and how of God’s response to our prayer. Are not these times much like the moments of the first Holy Week, when the followers of Jesus became discouraged and fearful at seeing how three years of being with Jesus turned out?
They had been waiting for the great fulfillment of a Messiah who would save them from the oppression and power of foreign rulers. Instead, Jesus was crucified as a result of the betrayal of one of their company. What a disillusionment!
But there were those who never lost faith in Jesus and who knew and believed in his word and promise. We are told how Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early on the third day following Jesus’ death and found it empty. This was her greatest moment of faith. Mary Magdalene believed so firmly in Jesus’ rising from the dead that she left the place where Jesus was buried and rushed to tell Peter, John and the other disciples what she witnessed. We see in the first Christian community, the first followers of Jesus, the results of a strong faith in the Jesus whom they accompanied for three years.
We, too, are invited to believe in Jesus as the events of our lives unfold, to believe he has a hand in our lives – in the unexpected happenings that occur in our families, in dreaded illnesses, or in disappointments at our places of work. As a people of faith we are called upon to exercise great trust and belief in a God who dwells in those “tomb-like” situations of our lives. Just as the tomb was broken open on that first Easter morning with Jesus rising from the dead, God will also transform us into people who truly believe that God will break open the tombs we experience in life, most especially during our moments of the Eucharistic celebration.
We are invited to the table to let God nourish in us the gifts of faith, hope and love we received in Baptism. Rejoice, then, in Jesus’ rising to new life. We, too, will rise!

“Fe de Pascua – Gozo de Pascua”
CONSTRUYENDO EN 100 AÑOS DE COMPARTIR Y CUIDAR
Bendiciones Pascuales a cada uno de ustedes, amigos y miembros de la parroquia Reina de los Ángeles. Es mi oración y esperanza que esta fiesta, la más grande en el Año Eclesiástico, no sólo los llene de felicidad este día sino también que fortalezca su fe y confianza en nuestro Señor Jesús. La festividad de la Resurrección de Jesús es verdaderamente la piedra angular de lo que creemos como cristianos bautizados. Es la razón de que digamos “Creo” cuando renovamos nuestros votos bautismales durante la liturgia de Pascua.
Lo que sucedió durante las primeras horas de la mañana en aquella primera Pascua era el cumplimiento de muchas de las palabras de Jesús que escuchamos durante los días de cuaresma. Y este gran evento, este misterio de nuestra fe, sucede una y otra vez en nuestras vidas diarias.
Cuando miramos a las cosas que ocurren en la vida diaria, nos damos cuenta cuantas veces llamamos a Dios pidiendo ayuda y garantía en todo lo que hacemos. Puede ser que necesitemos esperar más por los resultados que nos gustaría obtener, pero insistimos y nos preguntamos cuando y cómo será la respuesta de Dios a nuestra oración. ¿No son esos tiempos muy parecidos a los momentos de la primera Semana Santa, cuando los seguidores de Jesús se sintieron desanimados y temerosos al ver cómo resultaron los tres años de estar con Jesús?
Ellos habían estado esperando por el gran cumplimiento de un Mesías quien los hubiera salvado de la opresión y poder de los gobernantes extranjeros. En vez de eso, Jesús fue crucificado como resultado de la traición de uno de sus acompañantes. ¡Que desilusión!
Pero fueron aquellos quienes nunca perdieron su fe en Jesús y quienes sabían y creían en su palabra y promesa. Se nos dice cómo María Magdalena fue a la tumba temprano en el tercer día después de la muerte de Jesús y la encontró vacía. Este era el momento más grande de su fe. María Magdalena creía tan firmemente en Jesús resucitando de entre los muertos que dejó el lugar donde Jesús había estado enterrado y corrió a decirles a Pedro, Juan y los otros discípulos lo que había visto. Vemos en la primera comunidad cristiana, los primeros seguidores de Jesús, los resultados de una fe fuerte en el Jesús a quien ellos habían acompañado por tres años.
A nosotros también se nos invita a creer en Jesús como los eventos de nuestra vida se desenvuelven, a creer que él tiene una mano en nuestras vidas – en los sucesos inesperados que ocurren en nuestras familias, en enfermedades temidas o en las desilusiones en nuestros lugares de trabajo. Como gente de fe se nos llama a ejercer gran confianza y fe en un Dios quien vive en esas situaciones que parecen tumbas en nuestras vidas. Así como la tumba se abrió en aquella primera mañana de Pascua con Jesús resucitando de entre los muertos, Dios también nos transformará en gente que verdaderamente cree que Dios abrirá las tumbas que experimentamos en la vida, más especialmente durante nuestros momentos de celebración Eucarística.
Se nos invita a la mesa a dejar que Dios nos nutra en los dones de fe, esperanza y amor que recibimos en el bautismo. Regocijémonos, entonces, en Jesús elevándose a nueva vida. ¡Nosotros también nos elevaremos!
