Yes, it’s back: the third annual Queen of Angels Cellar prize. That’s right -- we’ll be auctioning off a complete 100-bottle cellar of wine February 20 at the Winter Toast. But in order to make it happen, we need everyone to do his or her part. Parishioners, school parents and any interested party over 21, we need your wine donations!
Previous lucky winners told us how much they liked the variety of the wines they received: reds, white, rosés, port -- we want all the good stuff! All you have to do is find a bottle of wine you would be proud to serve, and drop it off in the school or parish office.
Our goal is to collect 100 or more bottles to be auctioned off as a complete cellar. If you don’t have a bottle handy and are interested in shopping locally, say no more. You can stop by either Fine Wine Brokers, 4621 N. Lincoln Avenue, or Provenance, 2312 W. Leland. The folks at both of these fine shops will be glad to help you pick out something fabulous within your budget and you can leave your bottle right at the store. What’s more, for every ten bottles that are collected at Fine Wine Brokers and Provenance, they will donate one of their personal favorites. How’s that for a deal? In addition, when you shop locally, it’s estimated that 67% of what you spend stays in your community.
Maybe you can’t donate the week-long Caribbean vacation, but we are hopeful you can contribute your favorite bottle of wine. The more of us who participate, the better it will be. We would love to have everyone be a part of this valuable, one-of-a-kind auction item. Donations will be accepted until February 19. Winter Toast Needs Your Stuff
Winter Toast is Queen of Angels’ largest fundraiser, and the majority of the funds it raises come from a live and silent auction. We take your donations and transform them into lots to be auctioned off between 6 p.m. and midnight Saturday, February 20 in the Guild Hall. We would love to have terrific participation because the most interesting prizes always come from you and we are looking to update our selection.
Over the past couple of years, Queen of Angels folks have donated a staggering variety of items — everything from airlines miles to meat to six-packs! — to Winter Toast. We have turned these donations into $178,000 for the parish and school and that money has been used to pay for operating expenses, academic programs and ministry support.
We are asking for you to contribute anything you can. Specifically, we’re looking for airline miles; event tickets; vacation homes or timeshares; golf foursomes; gift certificates; liquor, wine, beer, champagne; services of any kind — artistic, culinary, home repair or whatever.
Not everyone has a corn-fed steer or backstage CSO passes lying around the house. Maybe you would like to join the solicitation team as we go about asking businesses that do have these (and many more) things. All it takes is a mouth and a modicum of courage. Please think about what you have or can get, put it into our hands, and we will figure out a way to auction it off.
