BUILDING ON 100 YEARS OF SHARING AND CARING
For some years now it has been a distinct honor for me to, from time to time, come up to the pulpit during the 11 a.m. Mass and either read the Word of God, or pray the general intercessions with the congregation. And many times as I’ve stood up there and looked out over our church, I’ve been struck by the incredible history of faith contained within those walls.
I’ve often thought about the many men and women, young and old who - years ago and decades ago and even generations ago - came to worship there, sitting in the same pews we sit in today, and looking up with faith at the same sanctuary and altar.
Jesus asked his disciples once, “When the Son of Man returns, will he find faith on the earth?”
I believe that we at Queen of Angels can look to Christ and say,
Here we are, Lord.
Two thousand years after you told us to remember you, we have not forgotten.
Two thousand years after you said to your apostles at the Last Supper, “Do this in remembrance of me,” our priests still say the words of consecration over the bread and wine which become your body and blood.
And we can say to Jesus Christ,
Here we stand, Lord, to hear your Gospel proclaimed.
Here we sit, to listen to our priests explain your Word and help us apply it to our lives.
Here we kneel in humble prayer before you in the Eucharist.
And in this sacred space we raise our voices in songs of praise to you.
Scripture tells us that “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.” And so we are.
The past and the future of our church converge and meet with all of us who come to worship there, so that in a very real way we have not simply inherited this church from those who came before us, so much as we are borrowing it from those who are yet to come, from those men and women, young and old who will come here years from now and decades from now and even generations from now, to sit in those same pews and worship at the same altar after many of us are gone.
We are all part of an endless stream of the faithful who will continue to come here as a living testimony to the fact that faith in Jesus Christ will never disappear from the face of the earth.
We are a community united by faith and called by Christ for the great work of living out his Gospel until he returns. And God will bless us greatly for our faith and our work.
I love our parish, and I love our church, and I am proud to be able to worship God here with all of you.

“Cien Años de Fe”
CONSTRUYENDO EN 100 ANOS DE COMPARTIR Y CUIDAR
Por algunos años ha sido un honor para mí de vez en cuando subir al púlpito durante la misa de las 11 a.m. y leer la Palabra de Dios o bien orar la oración de los fieles con la congregación. Y muchas veces mientras estoy ahí parado mirando a nuestra iglesia, me he asombrado por la increíble historia de fe contenida entre estas paredes.
Con frecuencia he pensado en los muchos hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y viejos quienes años, décadas y aun generaciones atrás han venido a orar aquí, sentándose en los mismos bancos donde nos sentamos ahora y mirando con fe al mismo santuario y altar.
Jesús preguntó una vez a sus discípulos, “¿Cuando el Hijo del Hombre regrese, encontrará fe en la tierra?” Yo creo que nosotros en Reina de los Ángeles podemos mirar a Jesús y decir:
Aquí estamos, Señor.
Dos mil años después de que nos dijeras que te recordáramos, no nos hemos olvidado.
Dos mil años después de que dijiste a tus apóstoles en la Última Cena, “Hagan esto en memoria mía,” nuestros sacerdotes todavía dicen las palabras de consagración sobre el pan y el vino que se vuelven tu cuerpo y tu sangre.
Y podemos decir a Jesucristo,
Aquí estamos Señor, para escuchar tu Evangelio proclamado.
Aquí nos sentamos para escuchar a nuestros sacerdotes explicar tu palabra y ayudarnos a aplicarla a nuestras vidas.
Aquí nos arrodillamos en humilde oración frente a ti en la Eucaristía.
Y en este espacio sagrado elevamos nuestras voces en canciones de tributo a ti.
La Escritura nos dice que “estamos rodeados por una gran nube de testigos.” Y así es.
El pasado y el futuro de nuestra iglesia convergen y se encuentran con todos nosotros quienes venimos a orar aquí, de tal manera que no simplemente heredamos esta iglesia de aquellos que vinieron aquí antes que nosotros, sino que la estamos pidiendo prestada de aquellos que aun estar por venir, todos esos hombres y mujeres, jóvenes y viejos quienes vendrán aquí años y décadas y aun generaciones mas tarde, a sentarse en esos mismos bancos y a orar frente al mismo altar después de que muchos de nosotros nos hayamos ido.
Somos todos parte de un torrente interminable de fieles quienes continuarán viniendo aquí como un testimonio vivo al hecho de que la fe en Jesucristo nunca desaparecerá de la faz de la tierra.
Somos una comunidad unida por la fe y llamada por Cristo a hacer el gran trabajo de vivir su Evangelio hasta que el regrese.
Y Dios nos bendecirá abundantemente por nuestra fe y nuestro trabajo.
Amo nuestra parroquia y amo nuestra iglesia y estoy orgulloso de poder orar a Dios aquí con todos ustedes.
