SPRED NEEDS YOUR HELP
SPRED is looking for a driver. Our Wednesday evening SPRED community has a disabled friend who needs transportation to and from our SPRED sessions. This would require driving a woman in her 30s from her home at Kimball and Eastwood to the Voss Parish Center at 4412 N. Western and back home. She has no physical disability and is quite independent.
Hours are from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, with one exception noted. The remaining dates for the current SPRED year are: February 4; February 18; March 4; special session on Thursday, March 19; April 1; April 29; and May 13. All dates are in 2009. WINTER COATS NEEDED A refugee service organization needs winter coats, hats and gloves. Used or new coats are needed for children and adults who are refugees from Iraq, Burma, Nepal and all parts of Africa. Please bring items to the gathering space in church.
MASS INTENTIONS Intentions may be placed for Sunday, weekday, holy day or holiday Masses in 2008 or 2009. Intentions may be offered in the name of friends or relatives, living or deceased, for those in need of extra prayers or in honor of a beloved saint. CALLING ALL FILMMAKERS! Do you have experience directing, producing, editing or writing films? Whether you’ve been the genius behind short films or Hollywood blockbusters, TV commercials or the best home movies ever made, your talents are needed at Queen of Angels. CHRISTMAS DINNER AT ST. BEN’S Why eat dinner alone on Christmas Day? All are welcome at St. Benedict’s for Christmas Dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, Christmas Day. Dinner will be served in the St. Benedict Social Center at the corner of Irving Park Road and Bell Avenue. HIGH SCHOOL EXAMS Area Catholic high schools will offer the Placement Exam for incoming freshmen (Class of 2013) on Saturday, January 10, 2009. All students should bring two No. 2 pencils and $25 (check or cash). Specifics follow:
-- Resurrection High School for Young Women, 7550 W. Talcott, will begin at 7:45 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Calculators allowed. Parents are invited to an information session at 8 a.m. in the Resurrection Cafeteria; refreshments will be served and information regarding academics, transportation, financial aid, Parents Club, athletics and more will be presented. CHRISTMAS CONCERT TODAY A Concert of Choral Music for Christmas will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 21 at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica National Shrine, 3121 W. Jackson Boulevard. The Paul Lindblad Choristers and the Oak Park Concert Chorale will perform Vivaldi’s “Magnificat” and feature works by local composers. “O Tannenbaum” and “Hodie Christus Natus Est” are among the favorites to be presented. SPRED HOLIDAY NUT FUNDRAISER SPRED, an exciting ministry of Queen of Angels Parish, is part of a larger effort to offer a place of welcome and meaningful relationships for children and adults with developmental or cognitive disabilities. SPRED provides a beautiful process of faith formation for both catechists and friends. Through these communities of faith, a person can discover God’s love and grace while living with a disability.
