Feast of St. Francis Lord, make me an instrument of your peace... Dogs, guinea pigs, turtles, hamsters, a parrot and even beanie babies were part of the annual Pet Blessing on Thursday, October 2. Beloved pets and their owners joined Father Jim Kaczorowski, Father Tom Lamping and Mrs. Julia Kelly, principal, as well as school faculty, staff and children for the outdoor event honoring the Feast of St. Francis. Participants were reminded to care for their pets and all creation as gifts from God.
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY IS OCTOBER 18-19 Next weekend, October 18-19, Pope Benedict XVI calls every Catholic in the world to celebrate our vocation to be missionary: It’s World Mission Sunday!
As Catholics around the world—here at home and in the Missions—gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, we are to pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work. We pray for those awaiting the “Good News” of our Lord’s great love for us and for the missionaries who offer the poor and suffering the light of Christ. And we are to offer financial help through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.
Just as our young church here in the United States received support in the 19th century from the Catholics of Europe through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, so too the growing churches in the Developing World today also require financial help. Your generosity next week will help make a faith-filled difference around the world.

DEACONS IN THE CHURCH A deacon is a man who is called by God to a ministry of service. With bishops and priests, the deacon receives the Sacrament of Holy Orders. He is an ordained minister, who may be married and have children, living in the lifestyle of the laity.
Deacons are called to a three-fold ministry of service—of the Word, Liturgy and Charity and Justice and live out their life in service to Jesus and their brothers and sisters in Christ.
Do you believe Jesus may be inviting you to inquire about this ordained ministry? If so, your first step is having a heart-to-heart conversation with your family and your pastor. The next info session of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Deacon Formation Program will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 22 at DePaul-O’Hare, 3166 S. River Road, Des Plaines.
