LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS God visits Solomon in a dream, and the scripture story nowhere tells us that Solomon awoke to have this conversation with God! So, still in his dream, Solomon answers God’s question about what he desires most, and God grants his request for wisdom in abundance.
In our waking hours, we are much distracted by work, home, family, traffic, entertainment, and many worries. When we try to think about what we really want out of life, we have trouble even imagining what that might be. But deep inside, our real longings dwell, known to God and to the Holy Spirit. Our dreams, unencumbered by defenses, may hold clues to what our deepest needs are, or what bothers us most. They could be God speaking.

ARE YOU ON THE CALENDAR? If your organization did not participate in Calendar Week, it is necessary to make immediate arrangements at the Parish Center. The new Calendar Week process replaced the Calendar Meeting as the means by which the parish calendar for August 2008 through July 2009 is being put together. If you do not record your meetings on the Master Calendar, they will be disallowed. This includes off-site meetings. Thank you for your cooperation.
ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS! Volunteers are still needed for summer maintenance in our parish school. If you are willing to work on a Saturday in the school from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., August 2 or August 9, you can work off 2008-2009 school volunteers hours and make a difference. Five workers are needed each session.
Working together provides a sense of community and sets a great example of volunteerism for our children. All adult parishioners (18 and over) are invited to help in this project. Workers must be able to do light lifting. For more information about volunteering for school maintenance, call Bob Ross at 773-802-3456.
RCIA—AN INVITATION TO COME AND SEE! RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. It is an opportunity for those who have never been baptized, or baptized with little or no affiliation or religious training in the Catholic religion, to learn and ask questions about the Catholic faith. This includes those who may have been baptized Catholic, but have not yet received their First Communion or Confirmation. Sometimes after the information meetings, prayer and reflection, participants choose to begin the process for becoming Catholic or coming into full Communion. It is important to note, however, that no commitment is expected of participants at this time. Sometimes those of us who have been Catholic our whole lives forget to offer this invitation to others interested in becoming Catholic. We just assume that if they are interested, they will find their own way. Sharing with others, in a gentle way, the information about RCIA may be just what some of our relatives, friends and neighbors would welcome. They may be waiting for just such an opportunity or invitation. RCIA sessions will begin this September and will meet on Tuesday evenings. Call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510 and leave your name and number. We will contact you with further information.

TEENS TAKE TIME FOR GOD ON NORTH SIDE KAIROS Are you a teen struggling with the big issues of College, Friends and Faith? Are you looking for something fun to do this summer? Would you like to discover more about yourself and find out what it means to be on “God’s Time?”
Students who have just completed their sophomore, junior or senior years of high school are invited to a four-day, co-ed North Side Kairos retreat at Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House in Barrington. Firmly grounded in Ignatian spirituality, the retreat gives teens a time to examine, discuss and reflect on commitment to family, friends and God. And of course, since it is summer, there is also time to enjoy nature, laugh and play.
This diverse, multi-parish retreat currently draws teen participants from both city and suburban parishes. It is open to all public, private and Catholic school students who have not already attended a Kairos retreat. The retreat will be held August 8-11 and costs $200, which includes all lodging, transportation and meals. Financial help is available.
