DID YOU KNOW...? The Church’s greatest prayer, the Eucharist, is celebrated at Queen of Angels 16 times during a normal week. This means that there are 16 opportunities each week for a Mass to be celebrated with a special intention for prayers for a person dear to you! Intentions may be offered in the name of friends or relatives, living or deceased, for those in need of extra prayers or in honor of a beloved saint. Birthdays, wedding anniversaries, feasts of patron saints and other dates special to you or your loved ones are great opportunities to remember them in prayer through a Mass intention.
Intentions may be placed for Sunday, weekday, holy day or holiday Masses during 2008. Mass cards are available. The suggested donation to Queen of Angels is $10 per Mass. Please visit or call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510 for information or to place your intention.
ANKLEBITERS IN SESSION Are you a parent or caregiver of small children? Are you looking for an activity to break up your week? Join us at Anklebiters! This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. The group meets from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the motor skills room in the basement of the school. This is a perfect opportunity for young families to socialize together beyond the preschool room, too! Call Joy Mollet at 773-275-4596.
FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery, where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration. Feel free to bring your bible, rosary, books and thoughts. Spend some time with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. This is an excellent way to build special devotions into your week.
Visitors are asked to register their attendance in the sign-in book when attending Adoration. The book is located in the chapel. You may sign up for a particular hour of prayer every week. At some time during the day, before or after work, while out running errands, stop by the chapel for some quiet time with the Lord. Help us keep vigil with the Lord by making time on Fridays for these beautiful moments of prayer. Call Christine Murphy at 773-561-9072.

MAINTAIN TIES TO SCHOOL HISTORY Are you a graduate of Queen of Angels School? Do you have wonderful memories from your elementary years that you want to help maintain and continue? If so, would you like to help the school expand its alumni relations efforts to better serve its alumni community?
As our parish and school approach the centennial celebration, it is more important than ever to build and maintain good relationships with the hundreds of men and women who graduated from Queen of Angels. Their memories and connections to the school are as important to the future of our school as they are to the past.
We would like to do more to cherish and document our history through involvement of more Queen of Angels alumni. Alumni relations activities may include helping plan reunions and masses, finding “lost” alumni, gathering and updating alumni information, and helping with student/alumni activities. Your commitment can be on your own time and schedule.
Contact the school at 773-769-4211 or e-mail alumni@queenofangelschicago.org.

SHARE FAITH THROUGH SPRED There is an urgent need for more volunteer catechists. We have two young gentlemen in our Thursday group who are presently without partners. One-to-one relationships are an essential aspect of the Spred program. There continues to be a need for more catechists for our Wednesday group as well so they may welcome more friends.
Please consider this important invitation. There are no challenging prerequisites as a Spred catechist. The experience is like no other. We urge you to come and learn more. Orientation and tours are given. You may register to observe a Spred session or you may just come and join one of our communities for a session to see how you like it. We meet either on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
Please, consider this opportunity and give it some prayer. Contact Julia Hess at 773-539-3634 or julia.spredcrw@sbcglobal.net.
ARE YOU A YOUNG SHAKESPEARE? Do not suffer the slings and arrows of a secret gift. Absent thee from anonymity awhile and draw thy pen to write an essay.
Ravenswood Catholic Young Adults, an organization of residents mostly in their 20s and 30s, is sponsoring an essay contest for high school students. All are eligible to participate who attend St. Benedict High School, attend one of the RCYA member-parishes or whose parent(s) are parishioners in an RCYA member-parish (St. Benedict, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Matthias, Queen of Angels or Transfiguration of Our Lord).
Choose one of the following topics and compose a 250- to 500-word essay: 1. “Have you had an unexpected change or conflict in your life recently? Describe what happened and how it affected you.” Provide concrete detail. Were other people involved and who were they? What was the resolution, if any, and what other changes do you expect as you look to the future?”
2. “Name a person in your life—whether family member, friend, teacher, spiritual leader or someone else—who has had a big impact. How did this person influence you and why? Be specific. What is your assessment of how your relationship with him or her has changed, if at all? Do you expect a difference in your future because of him or her and why?”
E-mail your essay in a Word document—with .doc appendix—to rcya_chicago@yahoo.com. Include your name, phone number and affiliation (whether you are a student at St. Benedict High School or what parish you or your parent(s) belong to). Entries will be judged by Craig Barner, an RCYA member and veteran journalist; John Schmitz, also an RCYA member and Chicago Public High School teacher and freelance writer; and Father Terry Keehan, pastor of St. Matthias. Decision of the judges is final.
The winner will receive $100 and a plaque. The deadline for submission is May 15, 2008. The winner will be announced shortly thereafter.
If you have questions, please call Craig Barner at 773-653-8834. Good writing!

FOOD PANTRY THANK YOU Thank you to the St. Vincent dePaul organization from Queen of Angels for the recent generous contribution to our Food Pantry at Transfiguration Parish. Our Secretary and coordinator of the pantry, Elizabeth Ledesma, conveyed to me that the support was timely and much needed. Elizabeth specficially mentioned Rosemarie Micklinghoff, Ann McCormick, Roine and Scott Michaels, for their efforts.
I continue to take great pride in the manner in which our parishes collaborate and this simple and profound act of kindness by your parishioners is a great example of that collaboration.
Keep up the good work at Queen of Angels and thanks for all you do to support us at Transfiguration and St. Matthias.
Rev. Terrence M. Keehan Pastor, St. Matthias and Transfiguration
