2008 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL BEGINS THIS MONTH The Lord is my light... Psalm 27:1 Many parishioners either have or soon will receive a mailing from Cardinal George. In this letter he will ask you to make a pledge to the 2008 Annual Catholic Appeal.
The Appeal not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese, it funds services that are of great help to ministries here in our parish such as SPRED (Special Religious Development) and Respect Life.
Your financial support is important. The success of the Appeal depends upon the gifts given by each of us to support our Archdiocese. Each of our gifts enables our parishioners to reach far beyond our parish boundaries. They bring the light of Christ to many who are served through education, ministry and services provided by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
When our parish reaches its goal, 100 percent of the additional funds received are returned to us for use in our parish.
Please answer the Cardinal’s request and make a generous pledge.

MAINTAIN TIES TO SCHOOL HISTORY Are you a graduate of Queen of Angels School? Do you have wonderful memories from your elementary years that you want to help maintain and continue? If so, would you like to help the school expand its alumni relations efforts to better serve its alumni community? As our parish community approaches its centennial celebration, it is more important than ever to build and maintain good relationships with the hundreds of men and women who graduated from Queen of Angels. Their memories and connections to the school are as important to the future of our school as it is to the past. We would like to do more to cherish, nurture and document our wonderful history through the involvement of more Queen of Angels alumni.
Alumni relations activities may include helping plan reunions and alumni masses, gathering and updating alumni information, finding “lost” alumni, and helping with student/ alumni activities. Your time commitment can be as much as you are interested in giving and can be on your own schedule. To volunteer, and for questions or suggestions, send an e-mail to alumni@queenofangelschicago.org or leave a message at the school, 773-769-4211.
ANKLEBITERS IN SESSION Are you a parent or caregiver of small children? Are you looking for an activity to break up your week? Join us at Anklebiters! This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. The group meets from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the motor skills room in the basement of the school. This is a perfect opportunity for young families to socialize together beyond the preschool room, too! Please call Joy Mollet at 773-275-4596.
2008 MASS INTENTIONS Remember your loved one by requesting a special intention for a Mass in English or Spanish. Intentions will be offered at your chosen weekday, Sunday, Holy Day or holiday Masses during 2008. Suggested donation is $10 per Mass. Please visit or contact the Parish Center.
DONATION STATEMENTS With 2007 behind us, it’s time to look ahead, or at least as far ahead as April 15. To assist you in declaring itemized deductions on your tax return, Queen of Angels can provide a list of your offerings made to the church during 2007.
Statements are available for registered parishioners who use contribution envelopes to give to the parish. Anonymous cash donations cannot be tracked and will not appear on statements. Please call the parish office at 773-539-7510 to receive your statement through the mail.
FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery, where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration. Feel free to bring your bible, rosary, books and thoughts. Spend some time with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament.
Visitors are asked to register their attendance in the sign-in book when attending Adoration. The book is located in the chapel. You may sign up for a particular hour of prayer every week. At some time during the day, before or after work, while out running errands, stop by the chapel for some quiet time with the Lord.
LYMAN FUND STILL IN NEED Please continue to give as you can to the Lyman Scholarship Fund that provides financial assistance to student families of our parish school.
The fund is financed totally through the generous donations of parishioners who believe in the future of Catholic education. Financial hardships, the loss of a job, a sudden illness or any emergency may hit a family at any time. Please consider helping those in need at our school by contributing to the Lyman Fund. Use the green envelope found in the regular monthly packet or place a donation in an envelope marked “Lyman Fund.”
It is the hope that no child is denied a Queen of Angels Catholic School education because of unexpected financial hardship. Call Mrs. Julia Kelly, school principal, at 773-769-4211.
A WORD ABOUT PARKING... Please be considerate of others when using the parking lot. Do not block someone’s entrance or exit in a parking space by leaving your car in the through aisles. When all designated spaces are taken it is necessary to find parking on the street. Thank you.
SHOP WITH THE ANGELS See a Shop with the Angels representative in back of church following the 8, 9:30 or 11 a.m. Masses every Sunday or complete an order form available at school or the Parish Center. Check out the list of vendors to meet all your shopping and gift needs. Benefit your tuition account, Lyman Scholarship fund or parish operating account with no additional cost or effort.
