NICODEMUS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED When a parishioner dies, the priest leads the wake, or vigil service, and celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. However, the final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Why? Laity are encouraged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer. It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members in the parish—and not just the priest—pray. This is a ministry of tenderness to a family in sadness and also one of personal fulfillment. Volunteers are needed. Follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Materials and training provided. Call 773-539-7510.
FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Every Friday, the Blessed Sacrament is placed out for veneration and prayer from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. To reach the Adoration Chapel, enter the church through the Claremont door, walk up the stairs, turn to the left and then to the left again. Walk down the passage behind the altar and enter the former baptistery, where the Eucharist is exposed for veneration. Feel free to bring your bible, rosary, books and thoughts. Spend some time with Jesus in the form of the Blessed Sacrament. Visitors are asked to register their attendance in the sign-in book when attending Adoration. The book is located in the chapel. You may sign up for a particular hour of prayer every week. At some time during the day, before or after work, while out running errands, stop by the chapel for some quiet time with the Lord. Please call the Parish Center at 773-539-7510 if you wish to leave your name and preferred time for prayer.
ANKLEBITERS IN SESSION Are you a parent or caregiver of small children? Are you looking for an activity to break up your week? Join us at Anklebiters! This group is for parents, caregivers and their children aged 3 and under. The group meets from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in the motor skills room in the basement of the school. This is a perfect opportunity for young families to socialize together beyond the preschool room, too! For more information, call Joy Mollet at 773-275-4596.
WINEFEST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Queen of Angels’ Sixth Annual Winter Wine Festival is fast approaching. Mark your calendar for Saturday, February 23, 2008. The auction is a major fundraiser for the parish and school and is almost as much fun to work as it is to attend. Because it takes time, people and talent, there is a great need for volunteers.
The following are ways to help: Fundraising—asking for sponsorships, gift donations, silent auction, working on getting food and beverage donations, etc.
Event set-up—setting up the gym for the event Greeting—checking in guests at the door, distributing auction programs and bidding paddles Wine and beer tasting—serving wines or microbrews, replenishing water pitchers Bartenders—pouring and serving drinks Ticket sales—selling drink tickets Clean-up—breaking down the event General—if you offer us some of your valuable time, we’ll find something for you to do.
Also needed are people with event management experience, wine knowledge, copywriting skills and catering or food expertise. Call 773-539-7510.

GIVING FROM THE HEART The strength of the Planned Giving Program lies in the commitment each of us makes with our time, talent and treasure. These are genuine gifts from the heart, the first fruits of our labors—and not the ”leftovers.” These sacrifices are given to Queen of Angels in love, not out of obligation. Our thanks is offered for all the blessings that we enjoy as a parish community and as people of God. These offerings are loving sacrifices of gratitude to God. Thank you to all who make this prayerful sacrifice.
