LOVE, SEX AND THE POPE THE ACCUSATION: Christianity poisoned sex. “Doesn’t the Church, with all her commandments and prohibitions, turn to bitterness the most precious thing in life? Doesn't she blow the whistle just when the joy which is the Creator's gift offers us a happiness which is itself a certain foretaste of the Divine?” —Deus Caritas Est 7:30 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2007 Voss Center, 4412 N. Western Ave. It’s not the newest Dan Brown novel—instead this will be a lively discussion of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical Deus Caritas Est, available online: www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/encyclicals/index_en.htm.
All parishioners are invited. Panelists include Father Jim Kaczorowski, Maureen Moran, Dan Plovanich, Steve Kloehn and Professor Dennis Temple. Moderator is Judge Thomas More Donnelly. The event is sponsored by the Queen of Angels Men’s Club. Refreshments will follow the program. Contact Larry Brown at brownpkg@comcast.net.

Donations are automatically transferred from a checking account, savings account or credit card each month. The program requires a one-time enrollment and ensures that donations arrive each month even if you’re out of town. Accounting and record keeping are simplified and the parish is better able to budget for expenses. Enrollment, account management and statements are online. NICODEMUS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED When a parishioner dies, the priest leads the wake, or vigil service, and celebrates the Mass of Christian Burial. However, the final Prayers of Commendation at the cemetery are led by a lay person. Why? Laity are encouraged to lead their brothers and sisters in prayer.
It is a sign that when a parishioner dies, other members in the parish—and not just the priest—pray. This is a ministry of tenderness to a family in sadness and also one of personal fulfillment. Can you make time for this effort? Volunteers are needed, especially those available for Saturday morning funerals. With fellow parishioners, follow the kindness of Nicodemus who, with Joseph of Arimathea, buried Jesus. Formation, orientation and manual provided. Call 773-539-7510.
A WORD ABOUT PARKING... Please be considerate of others when using the parking lot. The person you block may not be attending the same event and will be trapped in the parking lot until you return. The parking lot is used for a number of activities that take place simultaneously at various parish facilities. When the designated parking spaces in the lot are filled it is necessary to find parking on the street.

2007 ARCHDIOCESAN CATHOLIC APPEAL BEGINS Your Reward will be Great in Heaven (Luke 6:23) This week, many parishioners will receive a mailing from Cardinal George. He will ask that you make a pledge to the 2007 Annual Catholic Appeal (ACA).
The ACA not only funds the operations of the Archdiocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish such as SPRED, Respect Life, training of volunteer religious educators who work with children and adults and more.
Your financial support is important. The success of the Appeal depends upon the gifts given by each of us to support our Archdiocese.
The campaign theme, taken from the “Sermon on the Mount,” is our calling not just to give our treasure but to leave the earth a better place because of our presence in it. One of the many ways to do this is to contribute to the Annual Catholic Appeal so that through our parish and Archdiocese, we can spread the Word of God through the education, ministry and services provided by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
When our parish reaches its goal, 100 percent of the additional money received is returned to is for us in our parish.
Please be as generous as you can.
REMEMBER YOUR LOVED ONES... ...by requesting a special intention for a Mass in English or Spanish. Intentions will be offered at your chosen weekday, Sunday, Holy Day or holiday Masses throughout the year. Suggested donation is $10 per Mass. Please visit the Parish Center office during normal business hours.
