SCHOOL REGISTRATION DAY IS AUGUST 17 Registration Day, formerly known as Book Day, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, August 17 in the Guild Hall Gym, 4416 N. Western Ave. School staff and parent volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and facilitate registration needs to begin the new school year.
SIGN UP FOR CCD & CONFIRMATION CLASSES Children not attending a Catholic school may be registered for Sunday Morning Religion Classes (Kindergarten through Level 7) and Confirmation Preparation (eighth grade through high school). Registration will take place after each of the weekend Masses on August 19-20 and August 26-27 in the Gathering Space at the rear of the church. While sacramental preparation is part of this program, it is not designed for sacrament preparation only. Classes are structured to help children learn and grow in their faith. SPRED OPPORTUNITY We continue to have openings for SPRED volunteers. Each of our small faith communities provides faith formation and opportunities for friendship to adults with special needs. Each catechist enters a personal relationship with an adult with developmental disabilities offering respect and care. It is a very rewarding experience for both our friends and the catechists. As a community of faith, we slow our pace and take some time to recognize the presence of God in our everyday lives and celebrate that reality in friendship and love. SPRED DA LA BIENVENIDA A NUEVOS VOLUNTARIOS El Ministerio de Desarrollo Religioso Especial tiene posiciones abiertas inmediatamente para aquellos que quieran unirse a una de las comunidades de Spred en la parroquia Queen of Angels. Spred es un programa arquidiocesano basado en muchas parroquias y que abraza una misión única: proveer experiencias apropiadas y significativas de formación de fe, preparación sacramental y oración para niños y adultos con discapacidades de desarrollo (incluyendo, pero no exclusivo a, parálisis cerebral, autismo, desórdenes que provocan ataques, discapacidades de aprendizaje o el desorden de atención deficiente, problemas de comportamiento o problemas emocionales, Síndrome de Down u otros problemas genéticos).
Hay 128 comunidades de Spred localizadas en varias parroquias. Algunas reciben niños de 6 a 10 años de edad, otras reciben a adolescentes de 11 a 16, otras a jóvenes adultos de 17 a 21 años, mientras que otros grupos dan la bienvenida a adultos de 22 años o mas. Spred invita a gente ordinaria quienes disfrutan amistad y risas, quienes están abiertos a crear relaciones significativas, quienes valúan a la dignidad de toda gente, quienes aprecian experiencias sagradas o de oración, quienes están buscando un lugar de paz, seguridad y amor. Spred ofrece todo esto y mas a ambos, el voluntario y el amigo especial. BACK TO SCHOOL HEALTH FAIR Swedish Covenant Hospital will sponsor The Back to School Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 19 on the first floor of the Galter Medical Pavilion, Foster and California. Free physicals will be available for children in grades kindergarten, first, five and nine. Bring school forms and past immunization records. Free immunizations will be provided for infants and children through age 18. Reservations are needed for physical exams.
