SIGN UP FOR CCD & CONFIRMATION CLASSES Children not attending a Catholic school may be registered for Sunday Morning Religion Classes (Kindergarten through Level 7) and Confirmation Preparation (eighth grade through high school). Registration will take place after each of the weekend Masses on August 19-20 and August 26-27 in the Gathering Space at the rear of the church. While sacramental preparation is part of this program, it is not designed for sacrament preparation only. Classes are structured to help children learn and grow in their faith. SCHOOL REGISTRATION DAY IS AUGUST 17 Registration Day, formerly known as Book Day, will be from 3 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 17 in the Guild Hall Gym, 4416 N. Western Ave. School staff and parent volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and facilitate registration needs to begin the new school year.

SPRED WELCOMES NEW VOLUNTEERS TO MINISTRY The Special Religious Development ministry has immediate openings for volunteers to join one of the Spred communities of Queen of Angels Parish. Spred is an Archdiocesan program based in many parishes and embracing a unique mission: to provide appropriate and meaningful experiences of faith formation, sacramental preparation and worship for children and adults with developmental disabilities (including, but not exclusive of, cerebral palsy, autism, seizure disorders, learning disabilities or attention deficit disorder, behavior or emotional challenges, Down syndrome or other genetic disorders).
There are 128 Spred communities located in various parishes. Some host children, 6-10; some host teens, 11-16; others host young adults, 17-21; while some groups welcome adults, 22 and older. Spred is a collaborative effort by parishes within a deanery to welcome people with special needs of all ages. Spred is not a teaching method—no special degrees or qualifications are needed. Spred invites ordinary people who enjoy friendship and laughter, who are open to meaningful relationships, who value the dignity of all people, who appreciate sacred and prayerful experiences, who are looking for a place of peace, security and love. Spred offers all of this and more to both the volunteer and the special friend. The Queen of Angels Spred faith communities are presently in need of more volunteers in order to respond to our waiting list of friends. Act now so that you can meet the people in the group you will be a part of and take advantage of the training which is offered right here at Queen of Angels.

NORTH SIDE KAIROS VII Students who have just completed their sophomore, junior or senior years of high school are invited to a four-day co-ed retreat at Bellarmine Retreat House in Barrington. Grounded in Ignatian spirituality, the retreat gives teens a time to examine, discuss and reflect on each individual’s commitment to family, friends and God. And of course, since it is summer, there is also time to enjoy nature, laugh and play. This particular program is open to all Catholic and public school students who have not attended a Kairos retreat. The retreat will be August 11-14. Fee is $190. Some scholarships are available.
