It is that wonderful time of year when we can offer all members of this parish and neighboring parishes an opportunity to be a part of a Spred community of faith either at Queen of Angels or, if you prefer, at another parish. Spred is an archdiocesan program based in parishes with a unique mission: providing appropriate and meaningful experiences of faith formation, sacramental preparation and worship for children and adults with developmental disabilities (including, but not exclusive of cerebral palsy, autism, seizure disorders, learning disabilities or attention deficit disorder, behavior or emotional challenges, Down Syndrome or other genetic disorders).
Queen of Angels hosts three such communities for adults. St. Benedict hosts children 6 to 10 years old; St. Mary of the Lake hosts 11- to 16-year-old teens; St. Matthias hosts young adults 17 to 21. You can choose the age group that you would like to participate in. All groups will welcome you warmly.
We are not looking for teachers — we are not looking for special degrees or qualifications. We are looking for ordinary people who enjoy friendship and laughter; people who are open to meaningful relationships; people who value the dignity of all people; people who appreciate sacred and prayerful experiences; people who are looking for a place of peace, security and love. Spred offers all of this and more to both the volunteer and special friend.
If you never heard of Spred… if you heard of Spred but have little idea what it is about… or, if you are just a little bit curious… please call the Spred office at Queen of Angels Parish to learn more.
The meeting will be confidential. Asking questions does not commit you to the program. Simply give yourself the opportunity to learn a little about this beautiful ministry… tour our meeting room. If it is not for you… that is fine. If it is for you… you will know it and we will find the best fit for you. Please take this invitation seriously. Spred is a very special gift just waiting to be shared with more people.
