A NEW MINISTRY TO THE POOR
Our St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Peace and Justice Committee invite you to consider support of a new parish ministry to feed those in need. A new soup kitchen is being formed in our area at Our Lady of Mercy parish. The hope is that the kitchen will be able to serve a hot lunch to needy people in our area every Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. Several area parishes, including Queen of Angels would share the responsibility of staffing the soup kitchen.
Queen of Angels’ participation would be approximately one Saturday every other month.
The responsibility would include shopping for, cooking and serving food to about 80-100 people. Any interested persons should contact the parish center for more information. If you can’t help with the staffing of the soup kitchen, please consider supporting this new ministry by your financial support through our St. Vincent dePaul Society.
ANGELS BALL LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD FOLKS
The Angels Ball Committee is looking for a few good folks to help with the Angels Ball. For those of you new to the school or unfamiliar with the event, this is the formal winter event, with dinner, dancing and silent auction. It will be held at the Union League Club in downtown Chicago on February 26, 2005.
Why are we asking for volunteers so early? It takes several months to get all the items needed for the auction, and the auction is the major part of the fundraising efforts. We need a dozen people who can: volunteer some time during the day to make phone calls; volunteer some free time to help with the paperwork, follow up or typing and; volunteer to pick up items for the auction.
We also need volunteers who have an interest in contributing their expertise, opinions or general goodwill and effort to working on the committee, and help us make this the best Angels Ball yet. We always welcome new volunteers with whatever skills and time you have to offer.
Why volunteer? Our collective fundraising events keep the school’s tuition at 60 percent of the actual educational costs, so the school can provide an affordable quality education. We are very proud of our school and the education we provide.
Thank you for your consideration and generosity. If you wish to volunteer or have questions, please contact Jennifer Payne in the evening at 773-279-1140 or Carol Summerfield during the day at 312-552-4435.

WALK FOR LIFE UPDATE
First Annual Parishes of Lincoln Avenue Walk
Wonderful weather welcomed walkers on the morning of October 9 as participants stepped off for the First Annual Parishes of Lincoln Avenue Walk for Life. An array of thought-provoking services (the 21-foot rosary that Transfiguration of Our Lord provided was inspired) welcomed us at each of the parishes along the way. The variety of balloons and gold Walk for Life t-shirts certainly made the 28-plus member group highly visible as we made the three mile walk between the parishes from Transfiguration to St. Andrew.
To see pictures of the event, link to them through the www.respectlifechicago.com website.
Thanks to all who walked, everyone who volunteered and to everyone who gave of themselves to make this a success. We’re already looking forward to next year!
