THE PARISH LEADERS BOOK OF PRAYER UNDERWAY
On Pentecost Sunday, May 30, it was announced that the Parish Women’s Spirituality Group had accepted the task of assembling the Parish Leaders Book of Prayer. Since then, the women have been meeting on an almost weekly basis to prepare this book.
Why have a book such as this? No matter what activity or meeting we are involved in, it must begin with prayer. We are not a corporation. We are always the Church at work. The Church’s activity is guided and confirmed by prayer.
Who gets the book? The Chairperson or President of each parish organization or ministry will receive it. When the leader’s term expires, it is passed on to the next leader.
How is it used? The Chairperson or President of each group, or a person designated for this task, will choose and lead a prayer to open and close every meeting or event.
What will be in the book? There will be two parts. The first section will have prayers for general use by any organization. The second section will have prayers specific to the work of the organization and the cluster it is in: Education, Parish Life, Spiritual Life and Human Concerns. There could be prayers before an athletic event, a prayer for the poor, a prayer for teachers and students, a prayer for unity, and so on. Prayers will be in English and Spanish.
When will the book be completed? By February 2005 to be distributed at the Annual February Leader’s Meeting.
What should all of us be doing now? Please remember in your prayers the members of the Women’s Spirituality Group as they continue their work.
